Great Lakes National CemeteryOur nation honors veterans and their spouse with final resting places at government expense. These national shrines commemorate service to our country at a time of need. At the new national cemetery in Holly, MI, any veteran can be buried with their spouse at no cost to the family. Our nation's National Cemeteries are some of the most beautiful in the world. Michigan has two national cemeteries, Great Lakes in Holly and Ft. Custer near Battle Creek. Great Lakes National Cemetery was opened in 2005 as a tribute to our country’s greatest generation. A veteran’s burial includes the grave, granite monument, burial vault, and opening and closing. An honors service with taps, gun salute and flag presentation is preformed by the veterans branch of the armed forces.
